From Col. Don Blewitt on 02/01/2009

Dear Mrs Hendricks, Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the demise of our dear Colonel Hendricks. Not 'one of ', but THE most respected and honoured officers of the Corps of EME. I have known him from as far back as 1954, when I was just a Captain and he was already a very Senior Colonel, to whom all the most senior officers in the Corps looked up to for advice. Whatever I learnt in the field of engineering I learnt with his guidance and direction, every step of the way. He was an example of uprightness beyond measure and was thorough in every field of work, down to the minutest detail. If Colonel Hendricks had approved it, there was no need to give it a second thought. A great bond of friendship also developed between us over the years. I shall continue to remember with honour and joy, the time when he came all the way from Ruislip, to entertain me to a lunch with him at the Institution of Engineers in London, when I had gone to the U.K. a few years ago. I always considered it an honour and a privilege to be of any assistance to him, especially after he relocated in the U.K. I have conveyed the sad news to the present Director General of the Corps of E.M.E. at Delhi, Lt.Gen Chandele and he will be conveying his message to you on behalf of the Corps. From my side, I would like to express my deep sorrow in losing my very revered friend indeed. This world will be a very much poorer place without our most respected Colonel Hendricks who was a legend in his own lifetime. With my humble respects. Colonel Don Blewitt.
